"Everything in life is writable about if you have the outgoing guts to do it, and the imagination to improvise. The worst enemy to creativity is self-doubt. " Sylvia Plath
A great thought, isn't it? In fact, two thoughts. Firstly, that we can write anything we want - the sky's the limit and the imagination has no bounds. We've just got to have the determination to go for it.
Secondly, that we should trust ourselves. Writers - not just beginners but very frequently, experienced ones, too - are endlessly insecure at various stages of a writing project.
If you've been following my blogs you'll now that I often talk about developing the 'writing habit' as part of your daily routine. It makes writing portable, immediate and constant.
It also has the important effect of releasing your creativity so that you don't fret and sweat over the quality or even content of your writing. Here are the steps again.
Any time you find youself with a spare few moments, start writing down your thoughts.
Write without thinking or planning - anything that comes into your head.
Correcting and reflecting comes later - for now, just let the thoughts flow.
You'll be surprised by what comes out and, perhaps, the quality of your writing, too.
Writers I've worked with have gone off and written new works based on their 'creative rambles'.
Try it and see.
